After an earlier scheme on this site had been refused, we took a fresh architectural approach to the barn conversion, moving away from the previous design towards a more contemporary treatment that better suited the building and its setting.

Full planning permission was the only route available here, since the site didn't meet the criteria for a Class Q permitted development conversion, so the strength of the application was particularly important.

Working alongside a planning consultant with a strong track record securing barn conversions locally, we supported the application with 3D views and renders to clearly communicate the design intent to the planning authority, and secured permission first time.

As architects with an established track record of securing consents with Rother District Council and in Northiam specifically, it's our combination of design quality and planning strategy that allowed us to turn a previously refused site into a deliverable scheme.
