Family homes are being asked to do more than ever, and this house in Wilmslow needed to adapt to a household spanning more than one generation. The owners wanted extra space and better separation without losing the comfort and flow of a single family home, and without the upheaval of moving.
We designed a loft extension to provide a new level of accommodation suited to multi generational living, giving different members of the family room to live independently under one roof. At ground floor, we remodelled the layout and added a front side extension, creating a practical boot room and a downstairs WC, the sort of everyday features that make a busy family house work properly. The new and existing parts of the house were designed together, so the finished home feels cohesive and considered rather than extended in stages.
The result is a flexible, comfortable home that can support the family as their needs change. For homeowners in Cheshire planning a major refurbishment or extension, and looking for a Wilmslow architect experienced in loft conversions, multi generational homes and high quality whole house remodels, this project shows how thoughtful design can make an existing house work harder for the people living in it.
