Kingsway, Bromley

RIBA Stage: 0-4 (Planning & Technical Design)

Project Value: £225,000

Sector: Private Residential

Many homes in Bromley have plenty of potential that their original layout never quite delivers. This private residence needed more space, better light and a more cohesive feel, and the owners wanted a high quality result that would work for family life for many years to come.

We designed a hip to gable extension and rear dormer to open up the roof space, bringing in generous new accommodation at upper level. A porch extension improved the entrance and the way the house presents to the street, while a wider refurbishment and remodel tied the old and new parts of the house together. The aim throughout was a single, well resolved home rather than a series of add ons, with careful attention to proportion, materials and detailing.

The finished house is lighter, more spacious and better suited to modern living. For homeowners planning a significant refurbishment or extension and looking for a Bromley architect experienced in loft conversions, hip to gable and dormer extensions, and whole house remodels, this project shows what a carefully considered design can achieve on an existing family home.
