PERMITTED DEVELOPMENT

Permitted Development rights enable homeowners in particular areas and with specific house types to undertake certain types of work without the need to apply for planning permission.

This type of work can enable you to dramatically transform your home without the need to seek planning approval, which in some cases can be a lengthy process. It is always advisable to engage the services of an Architect, as we offer much more value than simply ‘getting permission’.

Architects are trained and registered professionals who will be able to take your vision and guide you through the design and construction process in a clear and defined way. We can add real value to your projects by taking the essence of your ideas and evolving them into something with greater depth and character. Importantly we will guide you through the common daunting approval processes, ensuring your project complies with planning and building regulations, and if necessary the party wall act.

In order to be certain that the proposed work is Permitted Development or that your proposal does not require planning permission, we always recommend you apply for a ‘Lawful Development Certificate’ (LDC). It is not compulsory to have an LDC, but there may be times when you need one to confirm that the use, operation or activity named in it is lawful for planning control purposes
